WHAT IS CUECOLLAR AND HOW DOES IT WORK?

CueCollar is an electronic pet training system that helps you modify your pet's behavior and maintains that training autonomously. CueCollar also monitors your pet’s behaviors and creates a record of your pet’s misbehavior while you’re not home. CueCollar works on the time tested principles of behavioral conditioning. Using the components that make up the CueCollar system, pets receive instructions in their owner's voice that keep them behaving how you want them to. After identifying problem behaviors, you would record a message correcting that behavior. Your messages get recorded, stored and played back on the Collar Module. Then you would work with your pet, conditioning him as to how he is to respond to that recorded message. Once he’s learned the desired behavior, place a Proximity Signaling Tag (or “Tag”) in the problem location(s). If your pet comes too close to the Tag, it will trigger the playback of your message and he will respond as he’s been taught to. Since CueCollar is an autonomous system, it will reinforce your training - all day, every day, even if you aren’t home.

HOW DOES CUECOLLAR MAINTAIN MY TRAINING?

CueCollar maintains your training by automatically and consistently reinforcing the rules that you’ve set up for your pet. You record messages on your pet’s Collar Module that reflect your rules (i.e. “Off the couch!” or “No drinking from the toilet!”) and place Tags in the problem locations. Any time your pet gets close to a Tag, the appropriate message will be played, ensuring your rules are followed. If your pet does not respond to the messages played from the Collar, a remote Treat Tower is triggered and begins to call your pet away from the problem location. If he obeys the come command and approaches the Treat Tower, he will often receive a treat for his good behavior. If your pet ignores both of these cues, you can enable an optional Aversive File to play a recording that will startle your dog out of his bad behavior and get him to move along. (Both the Treat Tower and the Aversive file are discussed in greater detail below.) CueCollar is an autonomous system that constantly enforces your house rules, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Even when you’re not home.

WHAT KIND OF BATTERIES DOES CUECOLLAR NEED?

The battery life of the Proximity Signaling Tags is 6 months to a year with a fresh set of 4 AA alkaline batteries. We recommend the use of rechargeable AA. The Collar Module has a rechargeable battery and comes with a power cord and adapter. The Collar Module has a low battery indicator light to let you know when to charge it. You may also set up notifications to receive a text or email when the battery is running low. The Treat Tower has an AC power adapter that plugs into a wall socket.

IS THE CUECOLLAR SYSTEM DURABLE?

Each component of the CueCollar system is made out of lightweight and durable plastic and will stand up to whatever your pet can throw at it. However, it should be noted that none of the components are intended as chew toys and you should prevent your pet from biting or chewing on any component of the CueCollar system.

WHAT SIZES DOES CUECOLLAR COME IN?

CueCollar comes in 3 different sizes: Small (10-14 inches), Medium (14-20 inches) and Large (16-26 inches).

WHAT IS AN ACTIVITY LOG?

The Activity Log is an online system that keeps track of your pet's behavior throughout the day. Each time a Tag, the Treat Tower and/or the Aversive file is triggered, the Activity Log gets updated letting you know what was triggered, what time it was triggered, how many times it was triggered and how long it took your pet to move away. This is a great tool that shows you which behaviors may still need work and which behaviors your pet has adapted to.

HOW DO I ACCESS MY PET'S ACTIVITY LOG?

The Activity Log is accessed through the CueCollar website. When you registered your CueCollar system with our website, your Activity Log was automatically set up. It gets updated wirelessly each time your pet triggers a Tag, the Treat Tower and/or the Aversive file. Log in to the website and see, in real time, what your pet has been up to all day.

WHAT FEATURES CAN I ACCESS REMOTELY?

As well as the Activity Log (mentioned above) you can access other great features on our website. By logging in to the CueCollar website you can set up notifications or alerts that will automatically update you or a third party if certain conditions are met. For example, you can set up a notification that will send you an email if your pet triggers Tag #2. Or you can set up an alert that will send a text to a neighbor asking them to check on your pet if he triggers Tag #5 more than 3 times in a day. You can also give each Tag a specific location/name i.e. “living room sofa” or “my bed” which will help you keep track of your pets continued need for training.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CUECOLLAR AND SHOCK COLLARS?

CueCollar is nothing like a shock collar, it is a non-shocking system that cannot harm your pet in any way. CueCollar works on the combined processes of positive reinforcement and classical conditioning. Training your pet in a safe, non-harmful environment is critical to his well being and builds trust between pet and owner. There are reports showing the effectiveness of shock collars in the hands of trained professionals and that’s okay. But not everyone who uses a shock collar is properly trained on how to use it and may inadvertently cause their pet harm. Very unfortunately, there are some people who purposefully abuse their pets with shock collars and that is NOT okay. Despite several attempts to ban or regulate shock collars in the U.S., their use is still legal here. However, there are several countries and/or provinces that have banned or regulated their use as seen below.

    • 1. Quebec 2. Wales 3. Germany 4. Norway 5. Italy 6. Czech Republic 7. Austria 8. Sweden 9. Finland 10. Denmark 11. Hungary 12. Scotland and here in the U.S. 13. Bolder Colorado

HOW DO I TELL EACH PROXIMITY SIGNALING TAG WHICH MESSAGE TO TRIGGER?

Every Proximity Signaling Tag has a set of micro switches that can be toggled into several different positions. These positions correspond to different file locations and will trigger playback of that corresponding message. Every CueCollar unit is shipped with a chart that shows what positions the switches must be in to playback each message from #1 to #7.

CAN I HAVE MORE THAN 1 PROXIMITY SIGNALING TAG PLAY THE SAME MESSAGE?

Absolutely! You can have every Tag trigger playback of the same message if you like. Or you can have each Tag trigger the playback of each one of your 7 messages. Record however many messages you'd like, up to 7, and have any amount of your tags trigger them. Remember, you may expand your CueCollar system by purchasing as many additional tags as you need!

HOW MANY MESSAGES CAN I RECORD?

The current CueCollar model allows you to record up to 7 separate messages. Each message can be up to 10 seconds long.

WHAT HAPPENS IF MY PET DOES NOT RESPOND TO THE COLLAR OR THE TREAT TOWER MESSAGES?

If your dog ignores the three repetitions of the message from his collar, the collar will send a signal to the Treat Tower which will call him to come three times. If he ignores the Treat Tower’s three come commands as well, you can optionally program one of two things to happen. The first is the easiest, nothing. The system will simply reset and begin the whole process over again. The second is that the system will initiate the playback of an Aversive audio file. The Aversive File (spoken of in greater detail below) is simply an audio file that is intended to startle your pet out of his bad behavior.

HOW DOES THE TREAT TOWER WORK?

The Treat Tower is a key element of the CueCollar system. It is specifically designed to interrupt your pet’s bad behavior while it’s happening by issuing a come when called command. When he responds to the come command and approaches the Treat Tower, his good behavior is positively reinforced by receiving a reward for his obedience. If your pet engages in an unwanted behavior, his collar unit will urge him away from the problem area three times. After the third time, the collar will send a wireless signal to the Treat Tower which will broadcast your pre-recorded come command three times over its loud speaker. If he obeys the come command and approaches the Treat Tower, a treat is dispensed and the message will change to your pre-recorded message praising him for his good behavior. While the Tower is broadcasting the come command, the collar ceases playing its messages so your pet isn’t confused by hearing two messages at once.

HOW DO I SET UP MY TREAT TOWER?

Set up your Treat Tower by downloading the free software from our website www.cuecollar.com. When it’s been installed, connect the Tower to your computer with the USB cable and start the software. Next, you will be prompted to identify which component you want to access, either the Tower or the collar, and choose the Tower. From there you can access all of its features; you can selectively enable or disable the Tower, input the name(s) of your pet(s) and record or play your messages.

WHY DOESN’T THE TREAT TOWER OFFER REWARDS EVERY TIME THAT IT IS ACTIVATED?

This is to prevent your pet from learning that breaking the rules will result in a reward. If the software algorithm determines that your dog consistently engages in a specific bad behavior and then approaches the Tower for his treat, it will begin to randomize when and if a treat is given. If the treats are not consistently given, he will not be able to equate rule breaking with receiving a treat.

WHAT HAPPENS IF MY PET DOESN’T RESPOND TO THE TREAT TOWER?

If your dog ignores the Treat Tower’s three come commands one of two things can happen. Either the collar resumes the playback of its original messages or it begins to playback the optional Aversive file. The Aversive File (spoken of in greater detail below) is simply an audio file that is intended to startle your pet out of his bad behavior.

HOW MANY DOGS CAN THE TREAT TOWER HANDLE?

The CueCollar Treat Tower can handle up to five individual dogs.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I DISABLE BOTH THE TREAT TOWER AND THE AVERSIVE FILE?

If you deactivate both measures, the collar will continue playing its original message in a loop until your pet eventually moves away.

WHAT KIND OF TREATS CAN I PUT IN THE TREAT TOWER?

The Treat Tower is a biscuit dispenser that is intended only for small, dry treats like, for example, mini Milk Bone biscuits. Moist or wet treats are not recommended as they will stick to the treat carousel and likely get jammed causing the Tower to malfunction.

WHY IS THE TREAT TOWER SO HEAVY?

The Treat Tower is weighted at the bottom so it’s harder for your pet to knock it over, pick it up or move it away from your intended location.

I HAVE MORE THAN ONE DOG. HOW DOES THE TREAT TOWER MAKE SURE THAT THE RIGHT ONE RECEIVES THE REWARD?

Each dog is fitted with a collar unit that is then programmed with the name of the dog wearing it. When any one of the collars gets triggered and if the dog wearing it ignores its cues three times, the collar will transmit a signal to the Treat Tower that includes the name programmed into that particular collar. The collar will also begin to transmit an ultrasonic signal that the Tower is designed to detect. Therefore only the collar transmitting this ultrasonic signal will trigger the Tower to dispense a treat. When the treat is dispensed, the message from the Tower will change from one calling the dog to come to one praising him for his behavior. If a dog that hasn’t been called approaches the Tower, the Tower will simply ignore him since his collar is not transmitting the appropriate ultrasonic signal. The Treat Tower is programmable for up to five dogs, with ten individual message files, two for each dog; one for the come command and one to praise him when he obeys it. When the Treat Tower is activated the collar transmits the name of the dog stored in its memory to the Tower along with a signal that will activate the Tower.

DOES THE TREAT TOWER COME WITH A REMOTE CONTROL?

The Treat Tower does not come with a remote control to control it. The Tower is used as part of a computer controlled system that is solely intended for behavioral correction. It is part of a highly refined training methodology. The pet’s behavioral association of the Treat Tower should always remain within the context of behavioral conditioning. The use of a remote control and the random disbursement of treats at the owner/operators whim will remove the Treat Tower component from that constraint in the dogs understanding.

HOW IS THE TREAT TOWER POWERED?

The Treat Tower is equipped with a power cord that gets plugged into a wall socket.

WHAT IS THE AVERSIVE FILE AND HOW DOES IT WORK?

The Aversive File is a special audio file location that comes into play when your dog has broken a rule and all other measures have failed to correct him. If you choose to enable this feature, it is only triggered after your first message is played and ignored three times and after the Treat Tower’s come command is played and ignored three times. The Aversive File is a 10 second long space, like the regular audio files, where you can record something that will serve to startle him out of his bad behavior and move away from the problem location. It can be anything you know your dog is averse to, for example a vacuum cleaner, thunder, coins rattling in a tin can, another dog barking or a more severe vocal command. This feature is completely optional and can be enabled or disabled at any time through the CueCollar software. It should be noted that even if you elect to use this feature, what you record there is entirely up to you. There is no necessity for it to be something to startle your dog. You may use this and every file location how you see fit. Since all activity on the CueCollar system is being recorded by your online Activity Log, you can simply use it as a way to identify a behavior that’s going to need more work or to initiate the real-time transmission of an alert text message.
